Lola's:
At first glance, Lola’s (recently reopened after parting ways with Top Chef contestant Dave “I’m not your bitch, bitch” Martin) appears low on soul and heavy on the stuffiness, but then again first impressions of Lola’s in SoHo are often wrong, thank you very much Ray Davies. Once you work past the “kinks,” your first taste of New Orleans hits as soon as you sink your teeth into the classics—shrimp and grits ($22), Lola’s mac 'n' cheese with bacon ($5), and the infamous 101 spiced fried chicken ($25). If you still haven’t warmed to the spot, settle into a seat at the bar and loosen up with one of their signature cocktails. Sexual Healing (Grey Goose vanilla, white crème de cacao, elderflower) and Superstition (Patron Reposado tequila, peach schnapps, blue curacao) are smooth enough to make both Marvin and Stevie proud. Not even the sassiest of trannies would find much to bitch about.
