Live Bait: With neon lights, picnic tables, and an alligator and Mardi Gras beads in the front window, Live Bait tries a bit too hard. Still, the wide selection of beer and Southern-themed, alcohol-heavy cocktails, fried and Cajun pickin’s, plus the middle-of-everything location keep Live Bait full of pleasant indulgers. The mood tends to oscillate from tourist-friendly—complete with gift shop—to dumpy college bar, minus the regulars and the at-home feel. Some combination of gumbo, Jack Daniels, and black-eyed peas (not the Fergie sort) seems to draw a stream of post-frat locals and chicks to follow. |
