Life Café: It’s impossible to mention Life Café without referencing Jonathan Larson in the same breath, as he was a regular, and the last scene of Act I in his “Rent” takes place here. Life has always catered to East Village artists, but there is nothing remarkable on the menu. The staff is well aware of the establishment’s underground fame, and uses this status as a license to do, well, not much of anything. Dining and drinking outdoors is appealing, but to be a regular you’d have to be enamored with the historical value of the place, because these days, it’s not impressing anyone. |
