Level V: This is pretty much what you’d expect from a Steve Hansen/BR Guest nightclub. The team behind Ruby Foo’s, Isabella, Blue Water Grill, and Vento, which is right upstairs, have brought their smooth, well-oiled, meticulously operated machine to the nightlife world and it works. Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Derek Jeter, and other A-listers make the rounds at this second-tier establishment, which is 1/2 Marquee and 1/2…something not quite as hot. Set in a former sex club, Level V’s subterranean digs combine a cave-like aesthetic with medieval wrought-iron bars, and very modern orange backlighting. Weekends see “Sex and the City” girls making bedroom eyes at checked-and-striped-shirt-wearing investment bankers while the DJ mixes Guns ’n’ Roses with James Brown and 50 Cent. The door is fair but strict. |
