Le Magnifique:
UES newcomer, Le Magnifique, is a double-decker establishment: the ground floor bar leads to a restaurant upstairs, where chef Eric Delalande heads the kitchen. Owner Stephanie Laurent promises a traditional bistro menu, a departure from her recently closed Brazilian place, Buzina Pop.
This is not the stiff UES place one might expect. In fact if you are looking for LA GRENOUILLE then stay away, but if you are looking for a welcoming chill French bistro go to le Magnifique. It is tight cramped and cozy with lively music and a correct staff. They will not bring you the one grain of salt on the vegan free bread that your diet requires; however, they will be happy to serve you good food with a smile. The host is great, he goes from French to English so fast you think your are actually in a film watching subtitles, you get it but it is still "French". It all happens so fast and somehow you are sitting having a great time for a few hours in their story. French film lovers will go crazy and anyone who appreciates the French knows what I am talking about. If you are stuffy uptight and want more space and things to go only your way then you might think of going someplace else, but if you can roll with the punches and enjoy yourself then you will love this place. We laughed and had a great time.
