La Piazzetta: You’ll never find this place unless you go looking, but it’s not a bad discovery to make. La Piazzetta is a friendly neighborhood place designed (half-heartedly) to mimic the inside of an Italian villa, which explains the non-functional balconies built into the walls and the colorful murals of the Tuscan countryside that brighten the space. The hand-tossed pizza is baked before your eyes in an open hearth and is shockingly good, even by New York standards. At happy hour, the bar crowd is a little sad (oh, the irony!), and it’s pretty much deserted the rest of the time and closed on Saturday and Sunday, but the martinis are very reasonably priced and there’s something to be said for elbowroom. |
