La Cantina Toscana: Some restaurants have jumped on the eyebrow-raising side of haute cuisine (think single scallop with chanterelle foam, wait…foam?) and then there’s La Cantina Toscana. Spaced in a romantic East Side setting, just steps away from the Roosevelt Island tram, you’ll think you turned off 1st Ave. into Tuscany. (Well, almost.) Hey, we're not talkin' Olive Garden eats here; this place is authentic, down to its extensive wine collection. The owners regularly shop at wine auctions and offer over two hundred choices in their cellar ranging from 1962 to the present. (Winos, this is your cue.) Obviously the majority of their underground wine stash is Italian and Tuscan but with bottle prices from $23 to $1000, you can drink as decadently as you like. But um, we suggest you take off the wine goggles before ordering. (For your wallet's sake.) |
