Kush: Hookah bars have become all the rage ever since 2003’s smoking ban took hold, but like those big pipe huffers themselves, most of them suck. Kush is one clear exception. The faux Middle Eastern/Northern Africa décor isn’t exactly new, but here, it’s done extremely well. Like others of its genre, this hookah house’s crowd skews young. (It’s almost as though smokers don’t live long.) A labyrinthine entranceway sets the pace for a lively lounge of many nooks and crannies. The beats and eats scene is lively, making it easy to inhale some second-hand hipness while dancing in one’s seat and sharing light apps and spicy specialty cocktails. The pipes may be calling, but they’re not cheap: Flavored tobacco starts at $30 per group-sized serving. |
