Kurve: Don't be alarmed when you walk into Kurve: you're not hallucinating. The groovy décor, with walls in watermelon red and Caribbean blue, restrooms in glowing green light, pink couches, and white formica tables (think Woody Allen’s Sleeper), comes to you courtesy of influential designer Karim Rashid. A mix of confused grunge types and chic young things gather around a central, oval-shaped bar to ogle each other while sipping pricey ($12-15) designer cocktails. A coconut, pineapple, and rum concoction called the Nillson Fizz, delivered in a huge wine glass, isn't half bad, and it goes well with the tuna papaya salad ($13). Other Japanese/Thai dishes (entrees over $20) come as small plates or mains. Co-owner Andy Yang (Rhong-Tiam) and Karim Rashid try so hard to come up with something original that they even rigged the colored lighting to temperature sensors. Changing the psychedelic palette like a mood ring? Not even Woody could have dreamt that one up. Open Sun.-Wed., 5pm-2am, Thurs.-Sat., 5pm-4am. |
