Knitting Factory: Having suffered the indignity of being condo-ed out of a neighborhood it helped to put on the map (Tribeca), the Knitting Factory has now gone the way of everything else “rock” in New York: It has moved to Brooklyn. The revered music venue is now actually at its third address—and the third time is definitely a charm. Unlike its previous occupant (the disastrous Luna Lounge), the Knit was wise enough to divvy up the vast space into two bars. The actual venue—with a white pegboard lined stage, of all things—is both eye-pleasing and ramshackle. This area is connected to the entrance by a hallway lined with classic Knit concert posters of those shows you claim you saw. The front bar, though, is the real winner, and you don't even need a ticket to hit it up! Designed with a back of slanted glass panels, this hangout gives you a skybox-style view of the show you were too cheap to pay for. In other words, you’ll have some extra bucks to pony up for the surprisingly cheap drinks. The beer selection includes 16 cans (try and break a can during a show, rowdy rocker) and the prices start at $3. In short, we’ve got a new favorite place to rock. That said, those new condos are already creeping awfully close… |
