Kevin St. James: This is another one of those deceptively sized bars. It looks average from the outside, but once inside, you realize you’ve been had. Like we can only assume Vern Troyer might, this combo pub does a good job of making the most of its smallish space. A long downstairs bar area decorated with Mardi Gras lights is always jammed full of neighborhood folk and tourists imbibing on 25 varieties of beer, while an upper-level, couch-laden candlelit lounge—complete with a pool table—saves itself for private parties. The menu’s full of pub grub mixed with international favorites like chicken satay and quesadillas, but it’s clear that most patrons are there to drink dinner. |
