Kettle of Fish: This is truly one of New York’s most odd and wonderful bars. Decorated like a shabby Midwestern rec room, Kettle of Fish defies simple categorization: It’s neighborhoody, sort of a sports and darts bar, gay-friendly, AND has a Wisconsin obsession. On Sundays during football season, be prepared to arrive early to get seats. Then grab a beer, and order in some food from the stack of take-out menus. Or just wait until Packer kickoff, when the owner passes around plates of authentic Wisconsin cheese and sausage. Year-round you’ll find a chummy clientele, hospitable staff, and cheap drinks. And for a few months in the fall and winter, you’ll hear the Packer Polka played each time the Pack scores. |
