Kenny’s Castaways: Perhaps a sign of the eccentricity of Kenny’s Castaways is indicated by the illuminated stained-glass Kenny’s sign, stuffed deer head, and grandiose chandlers that greet you as you enter into this shabby-chic paradise. Since its opening in 1965, Kenny’s has played host to the New York Dolls, Bob Dylan, and Patti Smith, among others. Seven nights a week, Kenny’s continues to be the choice locale for current bands that play at the back of the bar amidst a barrage of lanterns, Elvis memorabilia, gold records, signed photos, and buoys, among other washed-up treasure chest belongings. The wooden bar houses 14 beers on tap and a full bar that won’t break your bank. Though many things have changed in 40 years, Kenny’s purple illuminated greeting says it best: “Through these portals walk the famous.” |
