Toto, we’re not in SoHo anymore. Broome St. Bar is a far cry from the stylish surrounding establishments which make up one of New York City’s trendiest neighborhoods. Dulled wooden floors, an exposed corner kitchen, and blackboards that look plucked out of elementary schools and colorfully list the specials—this bar is straightforward, without frills, and doesn’t apologize for it. It doesn’t have to with a chill 1970s vibe, cold beer, and juicy burgers (hit the road if your contemporary carb-free diet doesn’t permit grease, because these beefy bad boys are the best on the block). You’ll be glad you clicked your heels three times and took a break from the voguish fashion show that is SoHo nightlife when you enter this casual yet jaunty pub. And if not, there’s a pay phone in the corner—call a cab. We won’t miss you.
