Joya: It’s loud, it’s hip, it’s usually packed. It’s also a very popular Thai restaurant, and there’s a good chance most nights that you’ll become acquainted with its bar, whether you’re waiting to eat or not. And that isn’t a bad thing. Joya’s prominent bar is big and fittingly sleek for its minimalist exposed-brick-and-concrete interior; there’s always a crowd, and on weekends, a DJ keeps the scene lively. Seating is limited, so don’t assume you’ll find bar space; you’ll likely have to stand and avoid bumping into the hard-working wait staff as they weave their way by. The bar is well-stocked, but because of the high jostling risk, your best bet is to skip the martini and go for a cold Singha (aka Thai beer), and just wait it out. |
