JoeDoe: Cozy new JoeDoe has settled into the neighborhood, finding its place somewhere between uber hip East Village hangouts and grimy dive bars along the Bowery. Its small and inviting atmosphere includes an exposed kitchen and simple domestic decorations, like flour sifters and coffee grinders. (Don't throw away that broken egg beater: Tomorrow it may be a work of art.) The seats in this bar-restaurant are made from old church pews, and somewhere, God is crying. The food trails the rustic Americana vibe, but don’t expect mom and pop prices; the limited menu offers entrees starting at $22 and upwards. For a treat that doesn’t break that bank, snuggle up to the bar and try an autumn rum cider or tomatillo sunset. Maybe a few locals will come out of their brownstones to share the moment with you—they've gotta like this place better than Boucarou. Open Sun., Mon., Wed., Thurs. 5pm-11pm., Fri.-Sat., 5pm-12am.
