Joe's Pub: This cabaret addition to The Public Theater showcases both established acts and those starving artists on the cusp of a meteoric rise. On nights when bigger names are playing, even rockers like soulful rain king Adam Duritz will queue up to get in. The intimacy of the setting is so charming and the acoustics in the church-like space so amazing, most can forgive the fact that they’re packed in like sardines. The downside to this kind of popularity is that unless they’ve also bought tickets to the late show, those lucky enough to have scored a space on the cushy banquettes can expect to be unceremoniously shuffled out by the wait staff. |
