Joe’s Bar is as straightforward as its name; this place is free of kitsch and eye candy. Translation: Nothing is complicated, fancy, or expensive. You could almost picture Willie Nelson throwing back cans of PBR amidst the bare-bones scene, where the most exciting element on offer is the pool table. But who’s complaining? It’s a welcome change of pace to have a bar in Alphabet City that doesn’t pander to the obnoxious fashionistas and fashionistos that take cabs down here. The only agenda is honky-tonk music topped off with cheap drinks. That’s “drinks”—not cocktails, ya hear?
