James: Have you met your new neighbor, James? Nestled in a 100-year-old corner brownstone, this seasonal American restaurant is an upscale addition to this section of Prospect Heights. Following the old-world trend, the homey space is minimally decorated with pressed tin ceilings, large mirrors on whitewashed stone walls, and a Lucite chandelier disperses light throughout. Likewise, the prices here are on the high side, but they come with the fancy pedigree: One of the owners, Bryan Calvert, comes to this corner of Brooklyn from Bouley and Union Pacific. The grass-fed beef burger with Cotswold cheese on brioche pleasantly satisfies, and the sautéed skate with capers, lovage, and roasted potatoes is already a favorite. If you aren't the type to drop $14 on a burger, just meet James for drinks. |
