Jack the Horse Tavern: Finally, a place for perfectly crafted cocktail without the password. When Jack the Horse Tavern opened up on a sleepy Brooklyn Heights block in 2006, locals welcomed its simple fare and lodge-like furnishings, quickly making it a staple. But while neighborhood pubs may be common, rarely do they put such care into the alcohol; with a diverse assortment of 14 craft beers and 23 reasonably priced bottles of wine, and a cocktail list that puts PDT to shame, you can’t miss. Try the Brooklyn Heights, a clever twist on a classic Manhattan made with Sazerac Rye, Campari and Regans Orange Bitters—or the Lady of Leisure, a smoky blend of bourbon, Cointreau and sweet vermouth garnished with burnt orange rind. Too many choices? One of the denim-clad experts behind the bar can mix up exactly what you want—even if you don’t know what that is yet. Open daily 5:30pm-1am.
