Insieme: It's a dilemma that’s plagued Tony Soprano since season 1: How to bring together the old school with the new. Maybe restaurant owner/chef Marco Canora should be a made man for even attempting it. Canora's Insieme in the Michelangelo Hotel, combines traditional and contemporary Italian cooking; the culinary equivalent of Uncle Junior + Christopher + kitchen. On one side there's time-honored favorites like linguini and clams, and lasagna, and on the other, duck ragu and lamb carpaccio. Silk curtains separate diners at white leather banquettes so conversation stays among the families. There’s even a private wine barrel-like room with cork walls and burgundy carpeting. As for drinks? Canora's partner in the restaurant, Paul Grieco, is a sommelier, so expect a great wine selection. You'll “drink like the fishes,” just don’t “sleep with 'em.” |
