Il Porto: South Street Seaport could really use a scenic hangout with a relaxed atmosphere, affordable food, and good drinks. Hopefully, such a place will someday open where Il Porto currently stands. Despite its pleasant yet sterile décor, What’s-It-Called is remarkably forgettable. With ordinary food, a staff that seems rightfully miserable, and the looming odor of the Fulton Fish Market all around, it’s really no surprise that this place is often empty. The occasional tourists and clueless Wall Streeter pop in for overpriced pitchers of margaritas and accompanying vittles. Ironically, the seafood at this seaport spot is very mediocre and each entrée is served with a side of indifference. Would you like an eye roll with that? Perhaps local restaurateurs hoping to distract tourists from their much cooler places opened Il Porto? |
