Il Porto
South Street Seaport could really use a scenic hangout with a relaxed atmosphere, affordable food, and good drinks. Hopefully, such a place will someday open where Il Porto currently stands. Despite its pleasant yet sterile décor, What’s-It-Called is remarkably forgettable. With ordinary food, a staff that seems rightfully miserable, and the looming odor of the Fulton Fish Market all around, it’s really no surprise that this place is often empty. The occasional tourists and clueless Wall Streeter pop in for overpriced pitchers of margaritas and accompanying vittles. Ironically, the seafood at this seaport spot is very mediocre and each entrée is served with a side of indifference. Would you like an eye roll with that? Perhaps local restaurateurs hoping to distract tourists from their much cooler places opened Il Porto?

Gross/Save Your Hard Earned Cash/Why is this place still in business??

THE FOOD IS AWFUL! WAIT SERVICE IS USELESS! THIS IS AN OVER-PRICED TOURIST TRAP! IN A WORD: SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TIME AND DON'T EAT HERE!!

As my husband so aptly put it as he warned someone who was about to enter: "A Filet O'Fish from McDonald's is several steps up the rung."

The calamari was soggy and the mashed potatoes where not "real" - they were flakes; you would think you would get real potatoes for an entree that cost $18.

The most disgusting thing I witnessed: A custodian left the bathrooms after mopping with a string mop and then carried that string mop over his shoulder swaying to the breeze through the restaurant where people were eating. GROSS!

BEWARE: If you do wind up eating here, THEY ADD A 35% TIP TO THE BILL!!! (WHAT?? For a party of 3?)

DO NOT RE-TIP; in fact, feel free to lower it for the crappy food, filthy and disgusting health code violations and non-existent waiter activity.

Never again...

There are soooooooo many restaurants in Seaport village that are much better than this is! Have been to it once. I will not visit it a second time.
