Il Buco
It can be hard for a restaurant to ooze romance without oozing cheese, but this Mediterranean restaurant and enoteca manages with old world panache. The space’s history as an antiques and arts store is evident in the décor. Whimsical chandeliers by a local artist hang from the tin ceiling. Crockery stands in for vases on the long, wooden peasant tables, and pots balance atop antique hutches. It’s all very country cozy, perfect for lingering over a spicy Rioja while ratcheting up the sexual tension with a date. For connoisseurs looking for a truly romantic experience, there are wine tastings of some of the 6,000 bottles (that’s 450 varieties) in the candlelit cellar some believe was the inspiration for Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado.”
