Iggy's Keltic Lounge: It’s a best of dives, worst of dives scenario at Iggy’s, which tells the tale of two Lower East Sides. On weekdays, punk rockers and like-minded dregs come here for inexpensive beer and cheap thrills. On weekends, frat boys who have a million bars just like this on their uptown or out-of-town blocks sweep in to get loud and pee on toilet seats elsewhere for a change. The bartender’s Irish brogue somewhat offsets the disingenuous Upper East Side generic-ness that can become one’s first impression upon entering. The anti-sceney mentality at Iggy’s is a little tiresome—whether you live on the Lower East Side or came here to drink, complaining about hipsters on Ludlow Street is as boring as moaning about all the French people in France. Yet, guess who the guy drinking next to you hates? |
