ICON is an oasis amid the over-hyped bar scene that has become synonymous with the W Hotel enterprise. This swanky lounge on the ground floor of the W Court Hotel is a welcome refuge, marked by a tony boutique hotel décor sans snooty attitude. Visitors are treated like customers and not annoyances as friendly wait staff and bartenders keep the martinis filled and satay skewers coming with a smile. A hearty appetizer menu of cross-cultural delights tempts post-work revelers with something a bit more substantial. Looking for something sweet? Try a sip of the S’moretini ($12)—the memories will take you back to summer camping days past, but with more booze and fewer bugs. The crowd here is hardly cutting-edge, but considering the direction hotel bars can take, they’re chic enough.
