Houndstooth Bar & Grill: From the owners of nearby Stitch, Houndstooth debuts as one of the few decent places to get a drink in the Garment District, unless methadone is your drink of choice. If you work on the abysmal blocks between 8th and 9th Aves., bypass those oh-so-charming Port Authority bars for this 6,800-square-foot bi-level space and healthy British gastropub, serving dishes like heirloom tomato salad and adobo-grilled rib-eye steak. Formerly the original “Chock Full O’ Nuts” store, the mahogany-walled venue is being touted as a casual event space with three distinctive rooms each containing private bars and plasma HDTV. With members of rock band Snow Patrol invested in the space, you might just find a few celebs in this former no-man’s-land. |
