Hope & Anchor: A new American diner by day, Hope & Anchor enlivens its little art-covered bar at night with fun and fancy cocktails like the Red Hooker ($8), a robust concoction of Maker’s Mark and peach puree, and Thursday-Saturday karaoke nights hosted by drag queens. It’s a small, handsome space with brick and mirror walls, big windows, local art, and a shiny gleam in its glittery red banquettes and barstools that makes it still an anomaly in hard-to-reach Red Hook. With little within walking distance, some come for the meatloaf and wind up staying for the martinis. But karaoke is the real nighttime draw, attracting hardcore fans (and their fans) from near and far with popular hosts and a huge songbook that tends to keep those overdone standards at bay. |
