Heartland Brewery
The Heartland Brewery Union Square is one of those nondescript, perpetually busy restaurant/bars you see all over town—and at least four of those are also called Heartland Brewery. A WASPy, white-collared crowd, Pier 1-chic design, and generic pop music round out a risk-free formula. What somewhat distinguishes this place is its stellar beer collection. Heartland’s microbrews are amazing, and they always carry at least eight different varieties. Another perk is the outdoor seating, which provides nice views of the park across the street. And even if you come during the after-work chaos, the two-floor design keeps crowding to a minimum. Plus, the food ain’t half bad. If you must visit a vanilla pedestrian pub, walk on over to this one.
