Havana Central @ The West End: A Castro-esque bar for the people? Havana Central is really part of a huge capitalist restaurant conglomerate. Don’t be thoroughly disheartened though. The prices are very much in favor of the average working stiff. They’ve also got great looking fake palms and super duper mojitos, not to mention sangria by the pitcher in six—count 'em—six varieties. Of course, the academics from nearby Columbia, who make up the bulk of the clientele, will be very thrilled to know that they can still come here to channel their favorite Beat Generation poet. All the relics of the former West End are intact in the front room, and right where they should be. It’s like Kerouac’s On the Road with a very big splash of rum on top of all the beer. |
