Gus' Place: Break a few plates over your head and come on down to Gus’ Place, a much beloved neighborhood Greek spot, once closed, now re-opened to the delight of Mousaka lovers everywhere. Family-style portions and welcoming staff make it a big fat Greek experience every night here. Gus himself is often on hand to help you decide which dishes and wines are best for you. Start out with a Kouros Kourtaki white to go along with the crispy fried calamari. You’ll want more than one glass if you’re doing it Greek-style! (Um, or your style.) He may suggest the Agros red to complement the falling off the bone lamb shank with delicate noodles and vegetable sauce. To decide which dessert to have will be hardest of all. Between the semolina cake with almonds, the flourless chocolate cake, and the dough wrapped figs with custard, your only hope is to order more than one (and that someone’s on hand to roll your ass out after you’re done).
