Guero:
Tucked into Julep’s lower level, Guero is the kind of bar the East Village is all about. (It’s no surprise this place knows what it’s doing as it's part of Dave McWater’s neighborhood franchise, which includes Nice Guy Eddie’s, Doc Holliday’s, and three others.) A small bar seating about a half-dozen looks over a basement that holds about 50 people and no one in the crowd is likely to own a suit. Local art adorns walls and a CD jukebox favors New York rock, indie standards, and a sprinkling of classic funk and country. Beer is served in the bottle and drinks are poured strong so don’t come here with plans of drinking anything “cute.”
It's a cute dive bar with a bit of a loungy feel. The local art on the walls is a nice change from the dirty mirrors and ragged posters you find at most dives. Additonally they have some great live music on Satudays as well as some fun nights (my favorites are the "non-club" dance party Fridays, metal Wednesdays and the Rock-a-billy night every month). It's kind of like what the East Village was mixed with what it will be...a real gem...especially seeing as it's pretty well hidden.
