Gramercy Tavern: Some things just make you feel like you’ve “arrived.” That’s the big city magic of Gramercy Tavern. We don’t know if it’s the carved oak bar, the Persian rugs, or the high ceilings, but something in this place softly murmurs “bespoke country club set.” If you’re interested in wine, this is your spot: The list is thick enough to be hard-bound. A few bottles are reasonable, and specialty Tavern Cocktails (Pear Cobbler, Parkside Fizz, Ginger Tonic) at $11 are really standard Manhattan pricing. Gramercy is famous for its food, though the wait list for a front room table is as long as the sample sale line at Hermes. Tables in the rear dining room are reservations only. And no, pulling a Ferris “Sausage King” Bueller move won’t work. |
