Gonzalez Y Gonzalez: Cheesy, like its food, this tourist trap at Broadway and Houston is hard to miss: Its giant neon sombrero can be seen for blocks. The space, decked out in the requisite Mexican theme park décor—piñatas, papier maché cacti, mariachi gear—is huge, boasting “New York City’s longest bar.” Extended happy hours make for cheap drinking, but the company falls either on the family dining or the gelled booty hunter side. With a disco ball and pulsating music, one can’t help but feel spirited back to Cancun Spring Break ’99. Luckily (or unluckily, according to your tastes, sicko), the wet t-shirt contest has been replaced with live music four nights a week and free salsa lessons every Thursday and Saturday. |
