Giorgio’s: Though you’d swear the front drapes at Giorgio’s are your grandmother’s, the vibe inside is much more romance-friendly. The dining area is intimate and polished-looking yet cozy—there are pillows on the banquettes, so pull the chair out for your companion and score the bench for yourself. You might not guess from the atmosphere but the prices—of both cuisine and drinks—are quite reasonable for the neighborhood. Try the linguini with lobster for $20, but don’t be put off if you have to share the dining room with a few gray-haired couples—many smell the bargain from 10 blocks away. If you’re flying solo, Chris at the front bar offers a good ol’ bartender’s ear, and makes a pretty mean Ellapolitan, too. |
