Gatsby’s: There’s something slightly schizo and ultimately unsatisfying about a bar that tries to offer everything to everyone. Exhibit A: This Spring Street bar tries to pull off the pub, restaurant, and lounge atmospheres, excelling, sadly, at none of them. Its fire-engine red front is reminiscent of a British pub, although the theme is supposedly 1920s speakeasy. Inside, sports play on six plasma screens, but at the bar, they’re serving pomegranate martinis alongside pints. Make your way to the back, and…“Wait,” you ask, “did I black out again? Are we at a different bar now?” Nope. You’ve just hit the “lounge” section, where DJ Jazzy Mediocre is spinning tunes for your rump-shaking pleasure. Crowded only by virtue of its central bar-hopping location, there’s nothing particularly great about this Gatsby. |
