Gaslight Pizzeria: An assortment of pizzas displayed in a glass case: Check. Old black and white photos of the neighborhood back in the day: Check. DJ booth: Che... wait, what? Yes, when you open a pizzeria in the most expensive zip code in the city (thanks for that tidbit, Forbes), you're not going to make rent just churnging out slices. Thus, Gaslight's new pizzeria does a lot to stand out from the Ray's of the world. Because it's joined at the hip with Meatpacking pioneers the Gaslight Lounge, a full bar is available, which is just the thing for those who prefer Manhattans with their slices. As for the fare, this place deftly strides the line between form (handmade fresh mozzerella atop every pie) and function (they stay open until 5 a.m. on weekends). And while the slices ($3) are very good, may we suggest you try—are you sitting down for this one?—the Fried Calzone ($6). it comes with a side of marinara you won't even need, and it's a pre-emptive hangover buster. So go ahead and order another Manhattan. |
