Galway Hooker
This “hooker” may be “new in town,” but the team behind this bi-level midtown drinking house is certainly no virgin to the New York bar scene. The owners of popular destination, Fiddlesticks, have created a sleeker uptown cousin—and this time, size does matter. It’s a 10,000 square feet space that has two floors, two bars, two pool tables, a full restaurant menu, some 120 beer selections, and a 12-foot HD projection screen. While the crowd is mostly of the male variety, ladies should take note if they like suited bankers and media moguls. Oh yeah, and it turns out a “hooker” in Ireland is actually a dirt-carrying boat. Bummer.

We visited here late on a Monday night at the end of Novembr and were served by a very chatty, friendly Irish barman (I know, not many of them in NY). Music was good, banter was very good and the pub had a nice layout. If I go back to New York I'l be sure to visit.

If you are a male from Long Island or New Jersey, then this bar is for you! Pricey drinks, loud music, 90% male, it's the perfect destination for anyone who likes to nuzzle against meathead douchebags.

A thoroughly disappointing bar from top to bottom. Pretends to be a sports bar with a projecter sized screen and lures people in early in the evening for poor Irish food and overpriced beers. However, the vibe turns decidedly sketchy around 9pm as the waitresses begin to put "Reserved" signs on tables that have been occupied by happy groups all afternoon. From there, it is all downhill. Bouncers the size of NBA players walk in, young kids start pouring in the doors and any positive vibe flees. Avoid this bar on the weekend at all costs (unless you are under 21 and live in Long Island or New Jersey).

I hosted a birthday party at Galway Hooker recently and it couldn't have been better! The room was perfect (loungey feel, flat screen t.v., leather couch and arm chair along with two tables and four ottomans, candles, etc.). Ana, Donal, and John were incredibly helpful with the planning and execution of the party. Our waitress was terrific. The food was great as was the service. I wouldn't have changed a thing!!! Thanks so much for an excellent party!!! :-)

The place is great..but i was very dissappointed. They claim not to be a "Sports Bar" although they have all these TV's. I did alot of research before i picked this place to watch the 2nd Yankee playoff game against the Indians. We got there, got setteled in the game began and Pink Floyd was blasting in our ears rather than the Game :(.We asked the manager to turn the audio and he said they try to have a lounge feel and try not to be a sports bar soo no audio. (on a YANKEE PLAYOFF game!!)
Sooo...we decided to leave and find another bar where the game would be on but the hard part..im on crutches and soo it wasent an easy feat!

Galway Hooker is a spacious, comfortable bar with a friendly staff and a wide selection of beers. Great place to watch a game or enjoy some pool while you drink. This place is going to keep getting better...

I happened to watch the superbowl here and have to let you all know that this bar has got to be the best place in NY to watch a game! It has a lot of flat screens and the biggest projector screen I have seen in a bar in manhattan. The staff are friendly(and hot), the beer selection amazing and the food great.
