Fornino: Traditional Italian pizza in Brooklyn? Well, yeah. Bedford Street isn’t just for hipsters anymore and this small yet impressive pizzeria draws even the most discerning foodie to a street mostly known for shabby-chic dive bars. Fornino’s brick oven reaches temperatures of 1,000 degrees when heating personal and group-sized pies (aka 10” and 16”) that range from “First Generation” via Naples to “Third Generation” pizzas that were made right here. The narrow front room holds about 34 people while a tent-covered, artificially heated backyard holds 30 more. In back, you’ll see a little greenhouse where toppings and spices are freshly farmed. Those homegrown herbs might inspire some high ideas, but Fornino’s fixings need no help satisfying the munchies. This spot is currently BYOB, but by month’s end, they’ll be adding booze to their limited vino list; don’t wait. |
