Fontana's: A B&T/Upper East Side explosion has all but deva-stated the Orchard Street area, scattering the rockin’ hipster scene all over the Lower East Side. A chunk of it has landed on Eldridge Street and it’s known as Fontana’s. With a band area downstairs, a long bar up front, and a cool back room where a mezzanine overlooks a movie screen and pool table, this place is going to work on the same level as The Delancey, Lit, and similarly funky shabby-chic joints that are being chased out of this area as it becomes Meatpacking District South. Pastel blue walls, tattoo-style paintings, and candy-red booths surround the unpretentious crowd that have all but conceded Max Fish to the tourists on weekends. A good-looking and accessible bar staff seals the deal. |
