Florent is a New York institution. A resident of the Meatpacking District for more than 20 years, this snug little French-themed diner serves better-than-it-needs-to-be post-club grub, like juicy burgers on English muffins and moules frites, 24 hours a day. A full bar and decent wine list make it as good a drinking destination as it is a place to chow down. Like any spot out thataway, Florent suffers from the obnoxious influx of the B&T crowd in recent years. But if you avoid the weekends, you’ll encounter a much more interesting crowd of eclectic regulars. Besides the food, the big draw is the man behind the meal, owner Florent Morellet, a character in his own right and a beloved fixture in the community. Gee. Sounds a lot like his diner. |
