Euzkadi: Red light bleeds from the front of this Basque restaurant, casting a mosaic of shadowy crimson on the ground. Passionate and seeped in national pride, two small Basque flags hang behind the bar, drawings of bulls adorn the ceiling, and a map of País Vasco is sketched on a back wall. This rustic, lively, yet laid-back eatery lures an attractive, slightly older crowd for exceptional tapas, pinxtos, and entrées. Daily paella specials for two are a bargain. On Tuesday nights a gypsy flamenco band serenades the crowd; DJs enliven the scene after 8pm on weekends. No liquor is served, but sangria—white and red—is ladled from two massive jars on the bar. Complemented by a carefully chosen wine list and champagne cocktails, the drink selection is more than adequate. |
