Epstein's Bar: If you can get past the lame bar name, Epstein’s Bar is actually not that bad. Located on the high-visibility corner of Allen and Stanton Streets, this multi-windowed watering hole spits in the face of Lower East Side secrecy, proudly flaunting itself and not caring if its patrons actually know its name. There are plenty of beers on tap, and the food is surprisingly excellent. Epstein’s is also aware of most New York drinkers’ love of boozing outdoors, and provides several picnic tables for outdoor consumption during the warm weather. The main drawback of this friendly drinking establishment is its size, or rather, lack thereof. Epstein’s is small, and when it gets crowded you’ll realize you could have had considerably more fun trying to squeeze 100 people into your rat-infested walkup. |
