Ellis Bar: You could call this place Southwestern Hospitality, as this newcomer sure aims to please—indulge in free bourbon every Monday and free food on weeknights. Kick up your heels at their “Bourbon & Bluegrass” party, starting at 7pm on Mondays. Happy hour other weekdays is from 5-8pm and from midnight-2am on Saturdays, featuring $1 off drafts and free food (take note, recession victims). Southwestern grub like rattlesnake skewers or cornmeal-crusted catfish with blueberry salsa will tempt you to spend some cheese (tapas-style small plates go for $8.95). Locals still make up much of the clientele, but with a slick metallic storefront, an interior full of charming desert décor, a grade-A jukebox, flat-screen TVs, and darts to boot, if there’s anything that will get us down to South Slope, this is it.
