El Faro: With neighbors like Marc Jacobs and Paris Commune, it’s refreshing to see that the hip police haven’t kicked the 78-year-old El Faro—the oldest Spanish restaurant in the city—out of its trendy West Village location. This low-key spot’s dark décor, diner-style booths, and older clientele don’t exactly scream “festive,” but go ahead and order a margarita on the rocks anyway. With dishes like paella and even lobster served in what looks like the pot they were cooked in, El Faro isn’t exactly big on frills, but the service is friendly and the subdued atmosphere makes for a nice refuge from the hipper-than-thou attitude outside its doors. |
