Edward’s:
Strapped for cash and can’t justify your $16 martini fix? Head to Edward’s on Tuesdays, when this low-key TriBeCa restaurant and bar with a vaguely French vibe offers its “Artists’ Night” specials: $5 martinis along with other discounts on food. Edward’s is the perfect neighborhood spot to grab a drink: A perpetual pile of newspapers encourages patrons to linger over their well-priced drinks, while flattering yellow lighting might just make you put down that paper and scoot over a seat towards your fellow discount drinkers. Even though Edward’s boasts one of the most welcoming bars in the area, there’s always an empty seat or two waiting for you.
It’s rare to find such a low key restaurant in this neighborhood that at the same time serves great food and drinks. Bring your children and let them draw on the big sheet of paper laid out on the table while you enjoy your dinner and drinks. Even dropping by to just hang out in the bar is great; they serve a variety of unusual martinis. The negative on this place is that they say they offer brunch, but they really don’t. You have to pay extra for the mimosa and the coffee, which for me does not qualify as real brunch.
