East of Eighth:
The name of this restaurant/bar may suggest that you’ve strayed from Chelsea’s main gay artery, but the cute gaiety inside will still make you feel right at homo. This two-level eatery features a bar on the first floor and a restaurant upstairs that serves American cuisine. But the best area to chow down is in the outside garden, complete with a trickling fountain. Meanwhile, your best bet for dessert is when the waiters don’t bring you flours. East of Eighth’s flourless chocolate espresso cake ($4) is so good, you’ll be writing love songs after devouring it.
