Eamonn Doran: Nestled among banks, this festive Irish pub adds life to an otherwise dull block. Yet besides its posters, Eamonn Doran doesn’t look like a traditional Irish pub: The tin ceiling is very high and red, there’s a small “exchange book club” library, and the large bar is dominated by huge mirrors and three unexpectedly prominent chandeliers, which cast long shadows and give the place an almost spooky quality. It’s quickly extinguished, however, by the tunes of the cool touch-screen jukebox and the spirited chatter of the older, regular-dominated crowd as they banter with Irish bartenders, follow TV sports, or participate in the rowdy, weekly darts nights. Upscale pub food is served late, and weekdays, Eamonn’s offers a very tempting happy hour—one with a free buffet. |
