Double Down: In Las Vegas, one divey place just might be the city’s only cool rock bar—and don’t say Hard Rock Café. It’s Double Down, and in the rapidly changing East Village, this vaguely themey spot’s East Coast cousin is a bit of a minority too. The long space that used to be Julep is cool, if not a bit quirky. Two TVs run loops of ’60s horror movies, porn, and who knows what? A mural opposite the bar looks like a tattoo shop’s wall, and even has a family-friendly Mickey Mouse painted into the mix. Granted, he’s masturbating. The staff is friendly and the rock music plays at non-intrusive levels, which makes Double Down a social bar. Get to know the locals over a bacon-infused martini, which goes down nicely at the pool table in back or the outdoor space behind it. |
