Dos Caminos Third Ave.: Numero tres of the Dos Caminos trilogy is up and running in Midtown and it’s everything one would expect from the BR Guest family, which includes Vento, Blue Water Grill, Fiamma, Barca 18, and several other top-of-the-second-tier restaurants. First off, the execution and staffing is solid, the kitchen is formidable, and Eben Klemm’s cocktail menu is superb. To their credit, and in some cases detriment too, Dos Caminos looks to blend into its neighborhoods rather than reinvent them: The SoHo locale is chic, the Park Avenue South installation is after-workish, and the Midtown locale, with its bright lighting and random soundtrack, is family-friendly. Current Top 40 tunes fade into '80s pop, '60s Motown, and Elvis so as not to offend anyone. The guacamole is excellent but save room for serviceable ribeye steak and seabass entrees. Nothing here sets tongues on fire, but the massive tequila selection will warm up a cold night. Dos Caminos is always a safe lunch or dinner pick. |
