Ding Dong Lounge: Like calling a fat kid Tiny, names can be misleading. Ding Dong Lounge is way more hip than the name would have you believe. Concert posters line the walls and pay homage to rock greats ranging from Neil Young to the Sex Pistols, and the chairs are so old that maybe Sid himself once popped a squat in one—it’s charming without trying too hard. It’s also decadent—the large wooden tables are lit by chandeliers making it feel more like Upper West Side than East Village (minus the clientele found uptown, of course). But they bring it home with an everyday happy hour from 4pm–7pm, except on Tuesdays when it’s all night long. You’ll find us at the bar then, chatting up one of the surprisingly friendly bartenders. Here, even a khaki-clad Columbia student can catch a smile along with his drink from the tattooed guy behind the bar. Aww…group hug? |
